Gillespie comes good

Australia’s Jason Gillespie has had a rotten time of it recently. He’s been a stalwart of the Australian side, but not 6 months ago, many pundits were predicting his demise from the game. In last year’s Ashes series he was ineffective, struggling for wickets. Although he was frequently a thorn in England’s side as an […]

Injury worries plague England camp

As Marcus Trescothick made a confident start to the season, with an emphatic 74 against a West of England Select, the news that he was making himself available for England for “whatever they want” would have been the silver lining of a cloud desperately troubling the England selectors. Steve Harmison will be out of action […]

It really is a funny old game

The MCC vs Notts game took a further twist on Day 2, as the MCC got themselves bowled out for 168, following Nottinghamshire’s disappointing 191, with an impressive spell from Sideshow-Bob lookalike Ryan Sidebottomn. But in reply, Notts limped to 66-3, with only Jason Gallian showing any discipline.

What’s next for the West Indies?

West Indies are no longer the force they used to be. They haven’t been in years. Since the days of Courtney and Curtly, Patrick and Malcolm, Vic and Carl, things haven’t really gone right for the West Indians. Brian Lara excepted, the side is a shadow of its former glory, and even Lara has struggled […]

India seal the tour

If there was any doubt whatsoever that England had been totally outclassed in the ODI series against India, then it was completely eradicated in the final match when India handed out a comprehensive drubbing to England. In spite of a series-best 288 from England, with some useful half-century contributions from Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood and […]

Kiss of death and World Snooker

Well, after I gave the kiss of death to Alastair Cook and Monty Panesar (so far managing 1 run and no wickets between them in the MCC vs Notts season opener at Lord’s) and have since woken up to near enough torrential rain, I’d like to take time to mention that the 888.com World Snooker […]

Six and Out officially official

It’s true - Six and Out is alive and kicking, and goshdarnit if the timing of its launch doesn’t perfectly coincide with the first day of the English domestic season. Editorial and management genius? (Actually no… just pure fluke).
To celebrate, I’ll clear up just what the ballyhell is going on with the name of this […]

English domestic season underway… kind of

It just wouldn’t be English cricket (well, unless you were trying to watch the 5th ODI between England and India) without a wet start to the season. The season opener MCC XI vs Notts (last seasons County Champs) finally got underway after a proper English drenching put paid to any cricket in the morning. England […]

The Centurians

I’m not much of a one for statistics, I admit. To me, I’d rather just get on and enjoy the game, rather than worrying if the globally averaged strike-rate for the pink-reddy balls was more or less than creamy-whitey balls, and whether the highest 7th wicket partnership at Headingly was significant if the opposition team […]
