Twenty20 gets off to a flier

The Twenty20 season has got underway with a storming victory by Somerset over Gloucestershire at Taunton. Somerset spanked a Twenty20 world record 250-3 off their 20 overs, at an astonishing 12.5 run rate. The damage was done by Justin Langer (90 off 46 balls) and Cameron White (116* off 53 balls). Ironically, both Australians.
The Twenty20 […]

Cricket to go baseball style

In response to the very serious problem of good light stopping play, Derbyshire have asked the ECB to help resolve the problem.
“It seems a simple solution to a potential problem. As long as the boundaries are the same and the opposition are in agreement we can’t see a problem with it,” chief executive Tom Sears […]

Curious absence?

Regular readers of Six and Out will notice that posts here have been a little thin on the ground recently. There are a number of factors at work here, I have all the usual excuses of too much work, not enough time, yahda yahda yahda. But largely I’ve been struggling to think of new ways […]

Cricketing lookalikes: Murali

I already commented on Ryan Sideshow Bottom, but I think this one is even more comical.

Carlton Banks
Murali

Yes, surely you remember Carlton, from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air? Could you imagine if next time he takes a wicket, he started doing this?

We don’t like change

Get off my land. Ooo-ar. Oh, sorry. Flashback. Former life. Anyway. There’s something about the current England one-day side that bothers me. It just doesn’t feel like an England side. Well, it does, in as much as the side keeps changing and it’s still a bit pants when it actually comes to playing cricket, but […]

The value of experience

Sri Lanka have beaten England in a Twenty20 match at The Rose Bowl in Hampshire. Sri Lanka posted 163 all out, a score that looked gettable. England managed 161-5 falling short by just a couple of runs. In amongst it, the experienced cricketers in both sides ultimately showed that experience is important in cricket.

It really isn’t cricket

Stories of this nature are in the press all too frequently, and certainly they’re not confined to cricket, or even sports. Racism and bigotry are prevalent wherever you go - nonsense and hatred spouting from the mouths of small-minded, ignorant and worthless people who are so insecure as to require such pitiful actions. Such idiocy […]

Jones out of Ashes

Simon Jones is out of the Ashes. You may be wondering why I said that twice in quick succession. But it’s true - Simon Jones is out of the Ashes which deals a major blow to England’s preparations for retaining said burnt bails. Arguably the difference between England and Australia last year was the […]

Only 8, but still amazing and the Test series report card

Well Murali didn’t get all 10, damn that pesky run out rule and the first “umpire-made” decision I’ve seen in bloody ages. But still 8-70 ish still had the England batting line up in tatters, and enough for Sri Lanka to draw the test series 1-1 with only their second test win in England. And […]

Murali to get all 10

Day 4 of the final test match between England and Sri Lanka. We’ll be chasing over 300 - and it’s a hard one to call. I don’t see England having a snowball’s chance of getting the runs and winning, but salvaging a draw would require batting for 2 days, which also seems unlikely - when […]
