There’s been plenty happening in the cricket news recently, plenty I could blog about, plenty of scope for pontification, easy fodder for a bit of freestyle sledging. Selection issues, injuries, even the Ovalgate scandal is still going strong. Loads of it. But the trouble is, I can’t. I’m losing it. I am literally a nervous […]

Now here’s something a little different. A new world cricketing record was set, well in fact 3 records were set, highest total, highest stand and highest winning margin by 2 Indian youngsters, eclipsing records previoulsy held by Sachin Tendulkar. The two boys, merely 13 and 12 years of old scored 644 runs between them, which […]

Won’t this thing just die? In yet another twist, that is, after the ICC announced that they’d moreorless sacked Darrel Hair, and then said he was their second-best, he’s now been voted #1 Umpire in the World by Wisden, receiving 34% of the vote ahead of Simon Taufel with 16%.
Now, it doesn’t take a genius […]

Wow, we’re flying through them now. First Jones gets the nod over Read behind the stumps, and now we know that Cook, Bell and Collingwood will play in the side, since Marcus Trescothick’s pork pie has rolled off his picnic blanket again and decided to depart early from Australia. Harsh? Maybe.
Trescothick is citing the […]

Questions, questions and more questions. Most of them surrounding team selection for The Ashes. Well, at least one of them has, for the timebeing, been answered. That is, who will keep for England? The choices have only seriously between two players - Geraint Jones and Chris Read.
Chris Read initially took the gloves after Alec Stewart […]

Ian Botham is a bit of a prat. He’s one of England’s finest living players and is generally considered to be the precursor to Freddie (that is, most people regard Freddie as the new Botham). There’s something about Botham that irks me, but I’m not sure what. But he’s finally said what should have been […]

Phil Jaques, the man responsible for scoring 2 centuries against England in three days, is actually eligible to play for England.
Born in Sydney to English parents, Jaques is a familiar figure in county cricket, where he has played for Northants, Yorkshire and Worcestershire.
As a British passport-holder he qualified as a domestic player with Northants before […]

If you visit any of the cricket forums at the moment, there are a number of common topics, man of them surrounding team selection. The discussion England’s side seems to be especially vociferous, mainly due to the sheer volume of question marks surrounding the side.
Will Flintoff be fit enough? (injuries)
Monty or Giles? (spinners)
Collingwood, Bell or […]

The argument over the Ovalgate continues to rage. Despite Pakistan getting their way and having Darrell Hair removed from International duty, they’re still unwilling to cough up the requested £800,000 in compensation for the forfeiture of the game. Instead, they’ve come up with a new plan: they’ll play cricket against us.
“We have told (ECB chairman) […]

Whilst the title of this post unfortunately forces unintentional thoughts of hairy arses, what’s more unfortunate is Darrell Hair’s removal from officiating in International matches. Well, unfortunate if you’re not Pakistani. No doubt the parties will go late in to the night in Pakistan tonight. The ICC spent 2 days discussing Hair, and finally came […]
