Handbags at Darren

I mean dawn. Erm. You know. Darren Gough celebrated the announcement of his return to Yorkshire and assuming the position of Captain by taking the opportunity to have a bit of a dig at England Chairman of Selectors David Graveney over Darren’s World Cup snub. Graveney had already apologised to Darren for calling him fat […]

Injuries plague World Cup

Injuries, injuries, injuries. It’s been a hot topic for ages now as huge amounts of people give their reasoning as to why there’s been an apparent increase in the frequency of serious injuries in International cricket. And now they will affect the World Cup, as key teams have players out with injury:
Australia: Matthew Hayden (toe), […]

Cut my finger off and call me Jacob

Jacob Oram has said he would happily amputate his broken finger if it means he would be able to play in the World Cup. Oram broke his ring finger whilst dropping a catch against Australia in the Chappel-Hadlee series in New Zealand.

Now, call me cynical, but surely amputating part of your body is not the […]

Plunkett banned (from driving)

England quick bowler Liam Plunkett has been banned from driving for 20 months, after being convicted of driving under the influence. And under the influence he was with a recorded 172mg of alc-y-hol per 100ml, when the legal limit is 80mg. Plunkett apparently regrets the incident realising he is a role model for youngsters.

Australia deposed from top spot

Australia suffered another loss at the hands of New Zealand, to lose the three match series in the first 2 games. It was their 5th loss out of 6 games. Even more worrying than their horrific 10-wicket hiding previously, was that Australia posted an-ordinarily-match-winning-336, which New Zealand chased with balls to spare. Sure, a 10 […]

Oram out

New Zealand’s Jacob Oram, the man who singlehandedly made the CB Trophy interesting by systematically destroying any bowler that was silly enough to send down a couple, will miss the start of the World Cup after breaking a finger in New Zealand’s win against Australia yesterday. In his defence it was a good catch, but […]

What a difference a month makes

Less than a month ago Australia were on the very top of the, erm, cricketing perch and by some margin as well. Having thrashed England in the Ashes, they had continued their form in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy by dishing it out in the one day version of the game to both England and Australia […]

England World Cup squad

England have announced their 15 man squad for the World Cup:

Michael Vaughan (capt)
Ed Joyce
Ian Bell
Andrew Strauss
Kevin Pietersen
Paul Collingwood
Andrew Flintoff
Paul Nixon (wk)
Ravinder Bopara
Jamie Dalrymple
Monty Panesar
Jon Lewis
James Anderson
Liam Plunkett
Sajid Mahmood

There are one or two obvious things about this squad: 1) Vaughan is in it, despite all his recent injury concerns. Certainly Vaughan is the best man for […]

Literary genius

David Graveney somewhat ridiculously called for an apology from anyone who doubted Duncan Fletcher’s ability, following England’s success in the CB Trophy. Evidently Graveney was on the bog when England lost the Ashes. It is often said that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but sometimes it is the only medium to portray your […]

Bitter end to tour

England’s physio was robbed at knifepoint by a gang of masked thieves, whilst “sharing drinks” with Andrew Strauss and a few other team peeps in their Sydney hotel. It sounds like an isolated incident, and that the robbers weren’t cricket fans who were annoyed Dean Conway for sorting out all England’s injured players. If anything, […]
