Good light stops play. Again.

I suppose you have to laugh. It’s still relatively early in the season and at a time when cricket is often lost, mostly due to wet weather and crummy light. So when the reverse happens, that is, cricket is lost because the weather is just too good, then it’s all a bit humourous. I’m talking […]

Flintoff out

Andrew Flintoff will have another operation on his ankle, which looks set to put him out for a considerable amount of time. Rumours have been floating around that he may even be forced to stop bowling and concentrate on a career as a batsman. Other rumours say that the earliest he’ll be back in action […]

Happy Birthday / Anniversary Test Match Special

Test Match Special, or TMS, to those in the know, is 50 years old. I’m not sure if it’s a birthday or an anniversary, but it’s still a great event. The importance of TMS might be lost on non-English cricket fans, but TMS is the English equivalent of Richie Benaud.
Read a lovely TMS history here.

Warne in bother, again

Shane Warne has received a “personal” 6 points for disorderly conduct during Hampshire’s game with Kent at the weekend, so reports Cricinfo. The ECB upheld a complaint of Warne showing dissent following his dismissal for LBW, which included an “audible obscenity” not to mention the odd glare or two. The points stay on his record […]

The Philip Schofield report

The Schofield report has been out for a while now and I’ve stayed virtually silent about it. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, I’ve been outrageously busy at work. Secondly, I never really expected it to say or do anything very interesting. Thirdly, it actually doesn’t say or do anything particularly interesting. […]

In My Day: Underarm bowling

In the second post of this series, I’m looking back at another shocking event in cricketing history. Perhaps not in the same category as the Bodyline tour, where bowlers set out to deliberately injure batsmen, but this episode is just as despicable. So despicable, in fact, that Australian legend Richie Benaud described it as the […]

England cruise to easy victory

2nd Test, England vs West Indies, Headingley
England sealed a convincing victory in the 2nd test, by an innings an 280 odd runs. Batting first, England notched up 570-7 dec in a day and a half, with Micheal Vaughan (103) and Kevin Pietersen (226) the stars of the show. In response, West Indies were bowled out […]

Sideshow Bob back for England

Ryan Sideshow BottomBob is back for England in the 2nd test against the West Indies, drafted in to provide cover for injured Matthew Hoggard.
I can’t actually find anything else to say about it. Is it a good idea? I don’t know, but I think any person with as hair as cool as that deserves a […]

Schofield report tomorrow

The results of the inquest into England’s shocking performance in Australia this Winter will be published tomorrow. Anticipation is high surrounding the thoughts of 6 men, including Nasser Hussein and Angus Fraser, on where England went wrong (well, we already know that) but importantly what should be done in going forward in to the future. […]
