Adam Bloody Gilchrist saves Australia’s blushes

by SixandOut on April 11th, 2006

Wicket keeper and general all-round PITA for any International team Adam Gilchrist, helped rescue Australia’s first innings in their test match against Bangladesh. Looking a huge embarassment in the face, at 145-6, Australia, thanks to Gilchrist’s 144 limped to a reasonable 269ao, before reducing Bangladesh to 124-5 at the close of play on Day 3, a lead of 282.

Bangladesh will feel that if they can score another 150 runs by the end of the second session tomorrow, then they will be in with a strong chance. Very few test teams will score 400 runs in the final innings of a test, leaving it up to the hosts to bowl Australia out to avoid a draw. With that in mind, Australia will not want to lose (even a draw would be pretty flaky for them) and they should never be underestimated.
