Adelaide: Day 2: I’ll eat my hat
Colly, Colly… Colly. I apologise for saying you’re not a number 4 batsman. I was clearly delirious. I’ve always thought you had it in you. Honestly.
England finally came to the Ashes by posting a promising 550-6 dec and reduced Australia to 28-1 at the close of Day 2. After Day 1, the feeling was that they’d like get themselves bowled out for 300 and Australia would have posted 400 by the end of the day. Not so, as Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood put on a record partnership, and Collingwood scored the first English double century in Australia in a million years or something.
Fantastic. I actually jumped for joy a little bit when I checked the score this morning. Well, I whooped a bit. Nevertheless it’s a good showing. And the scalp of Justin Langer before the close was an added bonus. England will be keen to bowl Australia out quickly, relying on the pitch deteriorating quickly. We really need Harmison to fire. Whether that’ll actually happen is a different story altogether, but we shall see tomorrow. Even if the match is eventually drawn as it most likely will be, it still shows that England aren’t dead and buried in this Ashes series just yet.

An outstanding effort by England. The funny thing is that from what I saw (only saw an hour or two and listened to a bit) the Aussie bowlers wheren’t that bad, it was more just good batting by England and I don’t think (apart from maybe the odd half runout chance) there were any chances missed.
Should be an interesting day 3.
Molly
