Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

Adelaide: Day 4: Hoggy hoggy hoggy….

by SixandOut on December 4th, 2006

Australia didn’t buckle under the pressure - Gilchrist found some form and Clarke proved his point. And even when they fell, the Australian tail chipped in leaving them on 513, just 40 runs short of England’s first innings total. Matthew Hoggard was star for England with 7 hard-earned wickets as he carried the other bowlers, with Flintoff off the pitch for most of the day with a sore ankle.

Realistically though, there’s only 2 ways this match can go - it will either be drawn, or Australia lose. There’s no conceivable way England can win this, but the propensity for an England batting collapse on a Day 5 pitch with Shane Warne bowling is large. All England really need to do is see off the morning session which ought to provide a big enough buffer around a vital draw. 2 nil down in the series would be A Very Bad Thing.
