Any accountants out there?
The dispute over television rights to English test matches rages ever closer to the inevitable Sky Sports gets it, tough luck everyone else. The ECB have already been criticised over their exclusive deal with Sky but it’s had little effect. They even gloat about the glorious Ashes summer last year in their annual reports.
Their defense to the deal was that the multi-million pound contract would fund all kinds of exciting opportunities for everyone involved in cricket at every level. But they’ve recently released their financial reports for the 2005 year and conspicuous in its absence is any mention of the TV deal. Except in the very last PDF in the list of commercial partners, where there’s a very pretty Sky Sports banner. One wonders if they’re trying to dial the heat down on it by not mentioning it.
