Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

Australia pick up the pace

by SixandOut on January 15th, 2007

_42448243_symonds203.jpgAs if hammering England repeatedly over the past couple of months wasn’t enough for them, they opened up a big can of the proverbial whoop all over New Zealand in the second match of the CB Trophy. In fact, this trophy is rapidly turning in to one of two contests. Number one will be on Tuesday which is the “Can England beat New Zealand” contest, whereas number two is “Can anyone beat Australia?”. Ahead of the World Cup, Australia are looking in dominant form despite losing most of their serious players (including Brett Lee who was out with a nasty cough.)

In fact, I’m struggling to remember the last time I saw any side look as unstoppable as this Australian side - from what I remember, the last side to do this, was another Australian side, but rather than sitting back and relaxing a bit, the side has turned in to a crazed cricketing behemoth, desperately on the hunt for more victims to devour. For the next couple of weeks, said victims will be confined to just New Zealand and England, but when the World Cup starts, heaven help us. It might just be carnage.

1 opinion for Australia pick up the pace

[…] Well one of the big questions was answered yesterday as England managed to scrape a win out of its contest with New Zealand, albeit only just. Neither side played with much conviction, as New Zealand posted a miserable 205 off their 50 overs, and England barely managed to score the required runs, with just one ball left. There were some plus points to come out of this - Jimmy Anderson found some form with the ball with another 4fer, Flintoff showed some evidence of why he was once the most revered man in cricket with a match-winning 75 off 72 balls, and my prediction for Micheal Vaughan came true in just the first game since, that is, he’s now injured his hamstring (and it’s a new injury on a different leg.)
