Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

Cricket Australia : Bollocks to your double standards

by SixandOut on November 27th, 2006

There’s no doubt that the Brisbane test was a great cricket match with a little something for everyone, and the sight of the Gabba full up to the rafters with fans and the noise and, wow. I would love to have been there.

Cricket Australia later announced five-day record crowds for the Gabba of 164,747, 77% up on the previous best of the previous best of 93,143 set during the famous 1932-33 Bodyline series.

“Ashes fever truly gripped Brisbane this week,” said chief executive James Sutherland.

Amazing. But I’m getting fed up with Cricket Australia and that arrogant tosser James Sutherland. Their Australian Cricket Family nonsense was dribble enough, but now they’re actually discriminating:

“The good-humoured majority showed you can have a few beers, sing along, cheer for your team, get involved in banter and have a great day without crossing the boundary into unacceptable behaviour.

You mean, if they’re Australian? If you’re Australian, you can get pissed up, dance around, shout abuse at the players and do what you want. If you’re English, however, you have to sit quietly, don’t say anything and behave yourselves. Oh, and no mexican waves, either. Don’t believe me? What about the Barmy Army having their trademark trumpet taken away? But if you’re Australian, you can publically ridicule the English? And that was no mistake - it was part of the official entertainment. Seems like a big fat double standard to me.

“The last five days saw a new benchmark set by cricket fans in the way they enjoy their cricket, and we hope to see more of the same in Adelaide.”

I wonder what they’ve got in store there. Maybe no cricket shirts allowed (unless they’re Canary Yellow and Green)?

And by the way, since when has it been “offensive” to say that you POMs don’t bath. Its another case of mismatch in langauge. You POMs call it “Offensive” where as in Aussie talk the correct word would be “Truthful”.

Lets hope we don’t smash you 5-0, I couldn’t stand the whinging.

I heard Beefy Botham whining about your lead up games! God, as I remember it, you had us playing One day matches up to the first test in England last year! Not a great warm up for test cricket!

I had this same argument in a cricket forum. I don’t have a problem with Australian fans calling us whatever they can come up with, poms, inbreds whatever. Same as we enjoy calling all Australians as convicts and use amusing stereotypes like “Streuth cobber, chuck another shrimp on the barby”. I was whinging because it was the organiser of the event (CA) who played the inappropriate song and in my mind have done everything they can to subdue the English fans as much as possible. The reason they did it is because they know how vocal the BA can be, even if they are a minority compared to the number of Aus fans. Scared. It’s a bit sad really.

Yes, its sad to think that the Aussies are worried about the BA. About the only thing that the Aussies are worried about the BA about is that Harmy will bowl a ball so wide that it will land in their laps!

    Come on!
