Dedication of the month : July 2008 : Neil Harvey
Yeah, you saw that right. From this post on, every month six and out would dedicate the month to some cricketer who I feel strongly about. Throughout the month, I would garner facts and trivia about the person. Should be fun.
So, Why Neil Harvey? Is it because cricket blogs were better in his day? Maybe. Lets see what I can dig up about him.

Interesting thought to talk about a past cricketer every month. Neil Harvey was a great of the game.
Although just a personal opinion that it might have been more appropriate to talk about Basil D’Oliveira this month considering that England and South Africa are engaged in a test series at the moment named after him.

I adored Neil Harvey as a youngster. I went to this site just to discover if he was still alive and kicking.
To watch him play against spin bowling was , for me, the jewel of the fifties cricket viewing.
The strangled bellow of woe that erupted from somewhere deep down inside me as I sat in the members’ stand at Old Trafford to watch his second duck to Laker was thankfully drowned out by everyone else’s joy.
After that match, ( I was aged 14), the team were not signing autographs. Someone pointed out to NH that I was proffering a large picture of him holding his newly born son, Robert.
He duly signed with a lovely note -my most treasured of a host of cricket memorabilia which my mother threw out from the attic after I’d left home .Have I yet forgiven her?
My last view of his craftsmanship was in 1961 when I saw him play at several county grounds.
They don’t breed’em like him any more!

I think neil Harvey is great! I really like it when he commentates on the Sky Sports games, and he can still play.
Take a look at my blog about my training over the winter http://www.howtoplaycricket.org and let me know what you think
