England fail again
England have failed to recover from the embarassing defeat in the first ODI of the 7 match series. In match 2, in Faridabad, England, batting first, could manage a total of just 226, which India managed with an over to spare.
Once again, England were in a good position from which to build an unassailable target, but failed to capitalise. Pietersen made 71 which signalled the 1,000 runs mark (equally Viv Richards for fewest innings’ required as well, 21) but that should come as little consolation when the team doesn’t win. In spite of KP averaging 67 in one-day cricket, critics will say that if he doesn’t stop relinquishing his wicket at critical moments, that he won’t be the reliable middle-order batsman that England so desperately needs.
Instead, England were undone by 2 of the opposition whose average age was just 22. Suresh Raina and Mahendra Dhoni with ball and bat did enough to forge India’s 2-0 lead in the series.
England’s inability to make the most of an established start and the return to the England ways of one gets out they all get out will be especially worrying for the management.
