England warm Australia up

by SixandOut on March 10th, 2007

In their last warm-up matches, England and Australia had a quick runabout. Winning the toss and electing to bat, England started brightly after Ed Joyce’s early demise, Michael Vaughan and Ian Bell put on a hundred to put England in a good position at 130-odd for 1. But England weren’t able to sustain the charge and were bowled out for a measly 197. In fact, after Bell and Vaughan, no other England batsmen looked capable of scoring any real runs. Australia then knocked the runs off easily enough, despite losing 5 wickets. Neither sides’ bowling attack had any real venom to it and it’s likely that the bowling attack is going to be the deciding factor in this World Cup.

England begin their World Cup campaign for real against New Zealand, and Australia against Scotland next week.
