England’s failures summed up
… in one easy go. One crappy A4 sheet, covered in scribble and question marks and absolutely zero indication that they had a workable plan to get rid of the Australian batsmen. For example, they were relying on Hayden’s ego to get him out, Symonds forgetting to bring his feet, and the Gods of “fair chance” for Gilchrist, who apparently got away with something at Adelaide and for anyone with a blue colour to just aim at their balls*.
Quite why there’s such an uproar over the loss of these plans is beyond me, considering that they say absolutely nothing of any interest, let alone containing some mysterious and secretive highly confidential eyes-only information. All they are are a further indication of exactly how under-cooked the team was coming in to the series.
Maybe they should have just listened to Hoggard.
* I’m fairly certain that says bails, but it seems aiming at their balls might have been more effective.
