Essex edge closer to Pro 40 crown
Essex Eagles inflicted a heavy defeat on Lancashire Lightning last night in one of the last games of the Pro 40 season. Lancashire, who haven’t won a game all season, are almost certain to be relegated, and despite a promising start with the bat, collapsed from 88-1 to 200 odd all out, chasing Essex’s 234. Essex can now only be stopped by Sussex, and that would be a slim chance at best.
James Foster had an incredible game and was rightfully named man of the match, scoring a brisk 67, and being practically faultless behind the stumps with two impressive legside stumpings.
This will be a both good and bad result for Darren Gough - he’ll be pleased that Essex inched closer to the title, but bad in that despite his absence, Essex were still able to close out the victory.
