Green Earth, Green Cricket
Prologue: Irony of Six’s life: Lives in the world’s seventh most polluted city, and the cricket stadium (where she’ll be cheerleading this coming November during India vs. Pak) the city owns is named, well, the Green Park. Sadly, green is the last color you’ll notice there.
Coming to the point. Today is Blog Action Day, which all the bloggers have decided to dedicate to the environment. I don’t think it’s fun living in the world’s seventh most polluted city where one out of every nine people is languishing with asthma, and where you’ll find more tuberculosis patients than anywhere else in the world (I am not exaggerating. We are world record holders in everything morbid and pollution). Thanks be to the forces that be, my doc Daddy, and that I am a borderline hypochondriac (there I said it), I have none of these. For now, at least. Not surprisingly, environment and pollution are two topics very close to my heart.
Just two cents:
1. For the Ozzie cricket team: Puh-leeze, don’t burn bails to celebrate your next Ashes win. And win you will, I know. Burning wood releases toxic substances into the air, and you know the rest. I am not trying to be smart-aleckey, here. Just trying to keep cricket in the loop. You get the point, don’t you?
2. Don’t buy two bats when you need one. Only a real blockhead would do that, but again, try to get the point. Going by the speed all the wood is being chopped down, I fear batters will be swinging plastic bats in the future. Do them a favor. Plant a tree– and then plant some more.
While we are on the topic on keeping earth green, I would also make a plea to all the forces that be to keep the game green. That would mean: No monkey chants, racist comments, favoritism, abusing, raising bats and all.
Peace.
