Hair gets the arse
Whilst the title of this post unfortunately forces unintentional thoughts of hairy arses, what’s more unfortunate is Darrell Hair’s removal from officiating in International matches. Well, unfortunate if you’re not Pakistani. No doubt the parties will go late in to the night in Pakistan tonight. The ICC spent 2 days discussing Hair, and finally came up with “We’ve lost confidence in him”, which in real words means “We don’t know what to do, but if we don’t do something, the brown stuff’s really going to hit the spinny-roundy thing.”
This is of course a total load of bollocks - Hair didn’t do anything wrong at the Oval - despite being a stubborn old git, he is, erm, was, nonetheless one of the best umpires on the circuit. Immediately after the Oval fiasco, the ICC backed Hair, and have obviously gone straight back on their word, and instead, have capitulated to pressure from various Asian teams. Sure, Hair didn’t do himself any favours along the way, he’s questionably racist, he asked the ICC for some seethe money to keep quiet, for example, but ultimately, the ICC have taken the easy way out.
My fear is what happens next time Pakistan have a problem with something? For example, will they be able to get away with not paying compensation to the Oval for the match forfeiture? Now that Hair has been removed from play, their argument is strengthened that they were in the right all along.
It’s a total mess and ultimately, it’s a mess that everyone, ICC included, will hopefully just disappear.

Greetings!
The Hair verdict seems to be coming up on every cricket blogger’s site. I still haven’t decided what I think of the decision yet, but it is always good to see every side to every situation.

[…] Well, Darrell Hair for one thing. After he was spectacularly given the arse for his involvement in Ovalgate, it seems the ICC still haven’t quite figured out what to do with him, or even how to treat its members. It’s about time the ICC grew a backbone, rather than fannying around so much. If after the trial they decided that Hair wasn’t fit to do his job, they should have just sacked him, end of story. If they thought he was fit to do his job, he should be umpiring as usual, end of story. But instead, they’ve ended up in this awkward territory, somewhere roughly between the two, where they don’t want Hair officiating against “the really good teams” but it’s OK if he umpires against the smaller sides (Scotland, Kenya, Canada etc.).
