Handbags at Darren
I mean dawn. Erm. You know. Darren Gough celebrated the announcement of his return to Yorkshire and assuming the position of Captain by taking the opportunity to have a bit of a dig at England Chairman of Selectors David Graveney over Darren’s World Cup snub. Graveney had already apologised to Darren for calling him fat but apparently that wasn’t enough for the former Strictly Come Dancing winner:
I spoke to the chairman of selectors and he said that I was ‘just about there’ for the World Cup. He said there was a chance. But cricket’s a funny game, and four wins later, everyone’s a world-beater and that hides what’s really going on.
“I didn’t get selected, but the chin’s up,” Gough added. “Good luck to England, they are in the World Cup. I played in a few myself and they’ve got a good chance, particularly on the batting side.”

Oooh, catty. I’m surprised that sensitive Darren took the job at Yorkshire considering that he was obviously third choice behind Chris Adams and Anthony McGrath. It seems as long as no-one at Yorkshire comments on Darren’s weight, then they should at last have a captain for the coming season.
