Herschelle Gibbs banned for racist comments

South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been banned from Test cricket for two matches after the stumpcam in South Africa’s match against Pakistan picked up some rather unsavoury comments. In fact, if you don’t like unsavoury things, then I suggest you stop reading.

Gibbs was recorded as saying:

“You fucking bunch of fucking animals… fucking go back to the zoo… fucking Pakistanis”

It’s not clear whether the comments were aimed at a specific Pakistani player, or rather at Pakistani’s in general. Despite admitting the charge, the South African claimed that his comments were for the ears of his team-mates only and that they came only after provocation from the Pakistani crowd.
