If you were a selector…

…would you rope Yuvraj Singh in for the second Test?
On the one hand, I feel that he’s in the form of his life, and we need to tap in on that. But on the other hand, yes, I understand we can’t let go of our long-time trusted Laxman either. Ganguly’s sealed his place again (that’s his only aim these days), so Singh’s entry isn’t impending. Plus, the current scheme of selection, particularly with respect to Singh, seems slightly to be inspired by the Australian model. Like, how Tait (their world cup wonder boy) and scores of other potentially good players are still struggling for a Test spot. In another part of the world, they’d easily secure a national jersey. Maybe this policy isn’t bad, but I still have my doubts.
Yuvi’s a gem, no?

Six,
I would have played Yuvraj ahead of VVS based on VVS’ form in the Ranji Trophy leading up to the Test. But given that no one in the team had a bad outing, it is going to be that much more difficult for Yuvi to get a look in.
If I were him, I would ask the team to cut me so that I could play for Punjab and get valuable time in the middle instead of warming a seat in the dressing room.
Cheers

Didn’t Laxman make more runs than Ganguly?

i second homer on that…
he can pile up more pressure and present more trouble to selectors by scoring heavily for punjab…
it will also help him to be in the groove and would not loose the form he is in…

Six,
Yuvi is all he is what you said. But one thing is plain simple — no spot for him. MSD is injured and might not play. So may be YS comes in and KKD kid keeps wkts.
Else dump the overrated kid KKD and ask Yuvraj to open. Quite feasible ha ?

in that case i would ask dravid to open innings…he has done it before and is virtually opening in almost every alternate innings…
sam, btw, how dk is overrarted ???

Ahh DK — my fav bashing kid. What is he good for ? Batting, fielding ? What ? He drops lollies, gets out in meek way, nods his head in a style suggesting he is world s best batsmen, but got out unluckily. cant bat fast, cant bat longer periods of time, cant make runs….yet he is in the team.
makes golden ducks at alarming frequency, what else do u need ? chucked out of ODI and T20 side, when time warrants for a partnership, he flashes his bat and gets out.
and btw you vindicate DK s failures by saying Dravid virtually opening in every alternate innings….so wot exactly is ur point ?

Dinnie,
Yuvi is good and certainly deserves a place in the team.
Unfortunately, he messed up the oppourtunity given to him earlier, paving the way for Ganguly’s return.

the kid is scoring fifty at least every test…was highest scorer in last england series…showed guts in sa tour when even more seniors than him were poking and podding…
every one drops catches and you cant held him against him for this only…
the thing is test matches are so few and far we tends to loose focus…mate…

That’s right, Homer, about playing Yuvi for Punjab. Harsha Bhogle said the same thing.
Earlier on I felt Kumble was right in not playing him, but seeing Yuvi “warm the seats” kinda got me started.
Even if he doesn’t get in, that should teach him something. Like, how arduous is the Indian Test spot and all.
Thanks all!

Uncle J,
Not in the Ranji Trophy, he didnt. VS’ scores in 4 innings were 0,26, 18 and 38. Plus he had a stiff back.

Homer, Ranji scores matter ?Gambhir has had a 137* and a 89, is he in the team ? KKD has got lean season in Ranji too, he still prevails in the team, though after today s 1, he s gotta be thrown out.
Plus VVS s 72* should see him in the team may be for some more time!!!!
