India ruffle the feathers
Ahead of the The Ovalgate [s]Trial[/s] inquest that gets underway tomorrow, India have chipped in to muck things up a bit further, by requesting that Darrell Hair, the umpire at the center of the scandal, does not officiate at any matches in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Hair, who is already under scrutiny for offering to step down from the elite panel for a mere $0.5m and has yet to learn his fate, was confident of standing in the series. But with the general consensus being that everyone in the sub-continent flat out hates him, it was only a matter of time before things came to a head. India have no “right” to request he does not stand, but its undoubtedly controversial and will put the ICC in yet another sticky situation.

I’m not sure whether it was a request or a “our way or the highway” approach to the Hair issue on the BCCI’s part.
As I’ve written on my blog, I’m sure the Pakistani Board had no small part to play in this whole saga. However, it should have been logical for the ICC to bench Hair for the Champions Trophy, if not from the Elite Panel altogether.

I don’t think they could have benched him from the Elite panel, as they undoubtedly would have been sued for unfair dismissal.
