Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

Interesting foresight

by SixandOut on January 1st, 2007

I was reading through some old posts on my personal blog and came across a commentary I made about English cricket. I was wrong about the Ashes that year, but I was right about the Ashes this year:

When’s it all gonna come crashing down then? Seriously. 8 straight test wins in a row is something of an achievement, for sure, and it’s great we finally have some quality players, consistently showing their form, Andrew Strauss and Simon Jones to name just a couple…

But it’s that permanent feeling of “It’s not quite right” (in a Roy Walker/Catchphrase “It’s good but it’s not right” sort of way) that’s worrying. We lost to a SA 2nd XI for example. We exhibited signs of the famous “England collapse” again in the first test. We’re still relatively inexperienced as a side.

And the worst thing about it all? Australia. There are many rumours about how we might finally be able to beat Australia. Win the Ashes. On their turf. Show them Aussies a thing or two, like we did in the rugby. It’s a nice dream, but I don’t see it happening (as the England rugby team is living proof of, having won the World Cup then losing 10 or so matches on the trot). Nope, even if we whitewash the South African’s, and go, what, 12 on the win, something still niggles me saying when we get to Australia next Winter, it’s not going to be as easy as we think it might.

Let’s enjoy it while we can.

Incredible.
