Michael Vaughan will miss the Ashes. In fact, I’d be surprised if we see him in a set of whites again. Apparently, further knee surgery has revealed even more problems. It’s OK though, because Freddie will lead the side in Australia. (Except he’s injured now). That’s OK though, we have plenty of other bowlers, like Simon Jones and Ashley Giles. (Oh. Wait.).
The sad thing about the injury situation is that it gives England supporters a rock solid excuse for losing any cricket in the near future, not to mention the Ashes, hiding behind a veil of not being able to field the same side that beat Australia last year. It’s nice having good excuses. But nobody wants that. I’m an optimist, and I think on our day, England can beat anyone in the world. But “our days” are becoming so few and far between, for one reason or another, that euphoria surrounding the England cricket team is rapidly waining. England are losing. We know. But, that doesn’t mean we want to see the Ashes gaily given back to the Aussies without a proper fight. And put simply - we want to get beaten, we don’t want to lose it on injuries.
