Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

It’s true, we know. But we’ll see.

by SixandOut on May 18th, 2006

Those cheeky folks over at Light The Torch felt it necessary to remind everyone that Australia are (and have been for _quite_some_time_) top of the ICC world cricket rankings. But, in fairness, it’s a well deserved accolade and not one to be sniffed at.

Officially, Australia are top on a rating of 131, with England trailing in second on 113, with India and Pakistan snapping at their heels rating 111 and 109 respectively. Now, the method of calculating the points and the rating is, on the face of it, pretty bloody complicated, but were England to get perfect Test match results from now until the end of the Ashes (i.e., winning the rest of the series vs Sri Lanka, and the test series against Pakistan, and beating Australia 5-0 in the Ashes) then it would be possible to secure the Number 1 spot*. Come on England.

* Editorial note: this is pure conjecture - my brain fried itself trying to figure out whether or not such a feat is statistically possible. Therefore, my fantasy imagination chip took over, reminding me that anything’s possible, ergo England being Number 1 Test team in the world must be possible. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Or the Cricket. We’ll see.
