Kiss of death and World Snooker
Well, after I gave the kiss of death to Alastair Cook and Monty Panesar (so far managing 1 run and no wickets between them in the MCC vs Notts season opener at Lord’s) and have since woken up to near enough torrential rain, I’d like to take time to mention that the 888.com World Snooker Championships at The Crucible, Sheffield, starts today.
2 weeks of World Class snooker. If I didn’t have to work, then after a fortnight, it would be hard to extract me from my couch. Defending champion, Shaun Murphy, last year’s shock 150-1 winner will be looking to become one of only a handful of people to successfully defend a championship title. My picks for the championship though are the likes of John Higgins and crowd favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan, though the draw precludes a final between those two, so expect Peter Ebdon or Stephen Maguire to be up there as well.
(That’s what I love about snooker - there is so little between the really top players, and it couldn’t be more open.)
