Murali in slow motion: Decide for yourself
Eat Cricket, Drink Cricket, Sleep Cricket
Chucking is all over me. So here goes.
While this is not a substitute for 3-D analysis and we’re not biomechanics, 2000 frames/second is slow enough for our eyes to observe bowling actions from varying angles.
I don’t really know if this is 2000 frames/sec, but it’s slow enough.
I am not going to say that it’s okay, because we all have different opinions regarding what throwing action is, and different eye (specs) powers.
As far as I am concerned, I think he bowls pretty neatly for his hypermobile joints. What do you think?

To chuck, one needs to bend one’s arm and extend it at the point of delivery. Murali cannot extend his arm as he has a deformity. This is what causes the optical illusion.
Having said that, it was found that all bowlers bend and extend their arms to some extent. That’s why the rules were changed to accommodate most of the modern day bowlers including McGrath and Warne.

Accomodate McGrath and Warne ? For what ? Did they chuck ? I dont think so. But yes optical illusion is for sure 200% chucking..

Thank you for highlighting the video. It was uploaded by me. If you pay close attention to the video you will note that his wrists are what deliver the ball. Along with a massive thrust from his shoulders. Due to his congenital deformity his body has adapted. Hence the supple wrists and abnormal shoulder rotation. View the video below

At normal speed next to Mark Nicholas there appears to be a profound jerk but the same delivery at 2000FPS shows a much smoother release. Thats because our eyes can’t process the speed his wrists rotate. Picture a humming bird in flight at 25FPS we miss almost 400-500 flaps of the bird’s wings. We only see a blur thats the illusion that pertains to Murali’s action.
