Quirky Quip: I hate dates, says Graeme Smith (But he has hope)
eat Cricket, drink Cricket, sleep Cricket
It’s kind of hard to go on one date, have a nice dinner and then say: ‘That was nice - what are you doing in six weeks’ time? I’m going to Chittagong.
Graeme Smith to Cape Times on why he is still single

Last we heard, Graeme Smith was seeing the hottest cricket chick out there. Hollywood directors were going gaga over her, or something like that. And now he’s saying he isn’t quite into dating.
Okay, things change, agreed.
We are no one to be offering dating advice, but Graeme Smith has some hope. (No, this isn’t about Match.com or Jdate.com)
Late in 2007, ScientificMatch.com, a DNA-based dating company opened in Boston. DNA-based dating, let’s repeat.Their funda: they take your DNA sample and match with other DNA samples in their database (which are submitted by other lookers like you). They don’t try to match your entire genome, just three HLA genes which are associated with body smell. Research has shown, or so they claim, that you are attracted to smells that are absolutely different from your body smell. Weird, but probably true. This is the first dating service of its kind. And that’s not it, gentlemen. You are also required to fill in a questionnaire concerning life principles and allied psychological stuff, so you could get exactly the kind of partner you’re looking for. Since Graeme Smith doesn’t want to waste time wooing girls, this might be a better alternative as it saves a lot of time.
So, Graeme, better get a ticket to Boston. Just our two rupees.

Dinnie,
DNA,BO, seem pretty complicated.
How about just walking upto a girl and ask her out for a date?

That would mean he would have to walk and talk, seems hard for him.

Maybe we should start a cricketers dating agency site

I am not a guy, so I don’t know what’s it like asking a girl out, but it should be pretty scary considering that most of the times guys get rejected.
Ottayan: There have been numerous researches on the BO thing. If you like, I can cite them here. There’s no doubt about that. That’s how we make romantic decisions. Of course, you don’t know you are judging by smell, but you are — unconsciously. (How I digress when India loses!)
Scorp…that’s a pretty good idea about the agency. http://www.cricketmatch.com should be a nice domain name?

Dinnie

How does that relate to match fixing?
I must get this stuff out of head. Pretty distracting.

Yet another pointer how punishing pro sport can be. See what happened with Yuvraj n DP. You’re never alone.

Pan,
Thanks for the explanation! I’ve killed and dissected four frogs this month. Their ghosts have taken over me, I think.
Naked Cricket:
I know I shouldn’t. I mustn’t. But you have aroused my curiosity…and I must ask, whatever happened to Yuvi and DP? I thought they were going out.

it was actually yuvi who went too far…so far that he is yet to return to crease and his normal fielding position… ;-))

As far as Y. Singh’s current performance is concerned, fitness might have been the culprit. Its difficult to get back into your natural mode so quickly….

Dinnie,
That was a pointer to DP’s Oz visit during the test series - the media went to town with it. Never alone. Does it take a Dravid/Kumble/SRT to keep the personal-pro-media disconnected?

Gotcha.
Actually, in the cases of Dravid, Kumble, and Sachin, the partners are non-celebrities. Problem arises when both parties are public figures. Yuvraj’s former affairs s and glamorous image helped too.

Sure, that’s one way of looking at it. But Yuvraj is a very puclic public figure. Not Private Public. And that is Major Major. Catch 22.

Going on a date may not be a problem for Graeme Smith because a cricketer does not play cricket round the clock. Dinnie, if Smith needs to find out his partner though DNA test, then at one stage, he might ask the umpires to check the DNA of the bowlers heading to bowl him!
Anyway, it was a nice article.

Puclic? I had to look that up!
Yes, you maybe right. Zaheer and Isha aren’t feed for the media.
Kishore:
How would checking DNA of bowlers help Smith?
