Seconds out…
Australian opener, Matt Hayden, has said what pretty much everyone else is thinking - without Freddie Flintoff, England are nothing. Stating that Fred carried us through last year’s victorious Ashes series, he feels that without him, England haven’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of retaining the Ashes. Well, Matty, consider the current ODI series in India - England were 4-0 down with 2 to play, Fred gets rested and we win. Go figure.
He’s obviously still bitter at Australia losing to England in the Rugby World Cup. To be honest, I find it all a bit rich, given his pretty pathetic performance in the Ashes series.
Flippancy aside, you can’t help feeling that Fred is however, cricket’s Jonny Wilkinson, and Fred plays an undeniably mountainous role in the England side. Without him, the side would be a very, very different side indeed.

Bit of a no-brainer from Hayden there. Take one of the top players in the world out of any side, in any sport, and they’d start to look just that little bit more ordinary.
That’s what distinguishes the really world class players, they’re just on another level like Freddie.
