Six and Out - Some Serious Cricket

SRK Gifts, Rajasthan Wins, Ganguly Cheats!

by Ankit on May 1st, 2008

Just watched the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals match on telly. A few things prior to the match came to my attention. Since the owner of the Kolkata team has gifted each player a new laptop, the Knight Riders have never won. Some coincidence. I hope Vijay Mallaya (liquor baron, owner of the Bangalore Royal Challengers) doesn’t serve chilled Kingfisher Beer to his team.

ganguly_nc : was unfortunately outDuring the game, there was a moment when Saurav Ganguly (48* then) lofted a ball straight to Greame Smith at deep mid wicket who took a lowly catch. As the Royals celebrated, Ganguly stood his ground and asked, I repeat asked the umpire to refer in upstairs. And ‘upstairs’ said : Not Out. Poetic justice was delivered when he got out three runs later. Huh!

Finally, congratulations to Warnie and the Royals for their fourth successive win. Faith be wit Ganguly and the Night Riders. Or was that Knight. Who Cares? You do? I don’t.

10 opinions for SRK Gifts, Rajasthan Wins, Ganguly Cheats!

Ganguly did not take any decision, it is the umpires that did. He had doubts and referred to the umpires. And umpires decision showed that his doubts are right. If anything, you should point fingers to the umpires.

well, looking at the whole picture and with the tool of retrospect it can be said that the Umpires are at fault. Any guy who has taken a diving catch knows that there is a difference between just getting the fingers under the ball and taking a bump-catch. Smith was pretty sure and the replay didn’t conclusively prove that the catch was NOT taken. Hence, the third umpire was most at fault. DAMN Rules…..

Ankit, here I would like to say that sometimes the fielder who takes the catch can not understand well whether the catch was right or wrong. Even if TV reply can not clearly show whether it was a catch or not- that means if it is a fifty-fifty situation, then, according to cricket law, the decision goes in favor of batsman. That is what happened to Sourav Ganguly. I do not see any guilty of Ganguly there.

    @ above

sir, point taken. I might be wrong, but I still feel that Ganguly should have taken the word of the fielder. Thanks for pointing it out, though.
