West Indies stuff Pakistan
The 2007 Cricket World Cup got off to a flyer at Sabina Park as hosts West Indies demolished Pakistan with ease. Batting first, the Windies posted 241 off their 50 overs, a total that didn’t look nearly enough. But their bowlers put in a sterling perfomance in bowling Pakistan out for 187. Admittedly, the Pakistan batting performance was surprisingly lacklustre as none of their big hitters, Inzamam included, managed to make any serious contribution. Both the Dwayne’s (Bravo and Smith, who both got 3fer, not to mention 30 useful runs from Smith) did extremely well for the West Indies, and highlighted the fact that on their day, the West Indies are as good a side as any in this World Cup. The West Indies’ fielding was especially good today, which combined with the just a handful of extras, showed them as a team on form. The key question for them, however, is consistency. Can they reproduce this form for the rest of the tournament? Pakistan, however, and particularly in their bowling, obviously missing Shoaib and Asif, looked weak, and whilst they’ll inevitably progress to the Super 8, will really need to improve if they’re to have a shot at the cup.
