I’ve decided to highlight a reader comment every week. Sometimes, our readers leave really intelligent comments.
Here’s a latest one from Hilal in response to the Murali video. Somehow it ended up in the spam queue, so you didn’t notice it probably.
Thank you for highlighting the video. It was uploaded by me. If you pay close attention to the video you will note that his wrists are what deliver the ball. Along with a massive thrust from his shoulders. Due to his congenital deformity his body has adapted. Hence the supple wrists and abnormal shoulder rotation. View the video below

At normal speed next to Mark Nicholas there appears to be a profound jerk but the same delivery at 2000FPS shows a much smoother release. Thats because our eyes can’t process the speed his wrists rotate. Picture a humming bird in flight at 25FPS we miss almost 400-500 flaps of the bird’s wings. We only see a blur thats the illusion that pertains to Murali’s action.

That’s useful info. Thanks, Hilal. Oh, and Hilal owns http://www.hilalscricket.com/

On a somewhat related topic, one bowler I am unsure of at times is Malinga. There are deliveries I see that seem perfectly legal, and then sometimes his action looks very questionable, even if you are giving him a benefit of the doubt. Same problem with Malinga, because his action is just so fast.

So we could conclude that Murali is actually a bird :)

Thank you for highlighting my previous comment. I am certainly no expert on bowling actions but on the subject of Malinga, logic would tell us to throw the elbow must bend and straighten, Malinga ’s arm is almost parallel to the ground with such a straight arm it would be impossible to throw.
